Chromium-molybdenum steel for mechanical structures

Chromium-molybdenum steel is an alloy steel made by adding a small amount of molybdenum to chromium steel. Its mechanical properties are roughly similar to those of nickel-chromium steel. It does not exhibit hardening brittleness, and its grains at the weld joint are finer than those of nickel-chromium steel, resulting in better weldability. Also known as medium-temperature hydrogen-resistant steel, chromium-molybdenum steel is an alloy of chromium (Cr), molybdenum (Mo), iron (Fe), and carbon (C). It has good hardenability and can undergo deep quenching. Due to its unique superior properties, the molybdenum in chromium-molybdenum steel increases the tempering temperature, resulting in higher strength and toughness. The yield point, tensile strength, and hardness of chromium-molybdenum steel are higher than those of nickel-chromium steel, while its elongation and reduction of area are similar.
