✎✎✎Automated Measurement (Milling and Turning): How can on-machine measurement improve machining accuracy, yield, and reduce costs? / Insights — Huan-Kai Hsu, Section Chief, Ren Business Division, Tech Industries, Inc.

Today's processing plants face challenges such as labor shortages, price competition, small-batch production, increasing precision requirements, and rising labor costs. Machine tool probes are being automated to reduce manual labor, minimize rework and scrap, and enhance both capacity and quality. High-end manufacturing, measured in micrometers, demands even higher precision, enabling the delivery of products that meet customer requirements more accurately. The future of manufacturing will be driven by automation and information technology, with robotics, process technology, and metrology equipment upgrades being key trends.

✎✎✎Automated Measurement (Grinding Process) - Insights on Grinding Process Optimization - Manager Wu Yuexun, FA Business Division, Technology Industry (Stock) Co., Ltd.
Grinding is an operation that breaks down solid materials into smaller particles. It is also a finishing method that uses the relative action of a grinding wheel and a workpiece under certain pressure to precisely machine the surface and achieve a higher degree of smoothness. If the density of the grinding wheel material is uneven, it will cause the grinding wheel to become unbalanced and vibrate, which will negatively affect the surface quality of the workpiece. Real-time monitoring and balancing of the grinding wheel, both inside the machine and on the line, can effectively improve the quality and stability of the grinding process. Grinding refers to the deformation of the metal surface layer of the workpiece under the instantaneous extrusion of countless abrasive grains on the grinding wheel, which then becomes grinding, forming a smooth surface. On-line monitoring, through audio sensing and power load detection, minimizes idle grinding time, stabilizes the grinding process, reduces unnecessary dressing, monitors the detailed grinding process, standardizes grinding efficiency, and analyzes the process, which can reduce grinding wheel dressing time and extend its life.Chen Xiehui, Section Chief, FA Business Division, Online/External Measurement/Experience Technology Industrial Co., Ltd.

The online measurement and monitoring system for grinding machines optimizes the grinding process, maintains process control, and uses axial positioning and position detection to detect differences in the workpiece end face position and automatically correct the origin position. Measurement is performed through taper detection to calculate angles, ensuring within tolerance limits. The absolute measurement system can quickly perform multi-segment dimensional measurements, rapidly improving overall efficiency. External measurement with multiple probes allows for multi-point measurement of a single workpiece. Through interconnected stations, automated quality control monitoring achieves stable workpiece quality, reducing labor costs and defect rates.
